Submit the renewal before the membership expiry date

Travellers renewing United States Global Entry membership should distinguish a timely pending renewal from a membership that has simply expired. CBP's renewal guidance says someone who submits before membership expires can continue using benefits for up to twenty-four months after that expiry while the application is considered. This is a current preparation guide, not a new extension announced today. Check the expiry in the Trusted Traveler Programs account before making a return journey that depends on the faster processing lane.

Use the official renewal transaction through the TTP account and follow its Membership Renewal instructions. Starting a draft or paying another company to assist is not evidence that CBP has received a renewal. Save the submitted-application record and check the dashboard for the actual status. CBP's separate renewal-steps answer says an interview may be required on renewal. An earlier interview does not establish that a later application will automatically be approved without another assessment.

Review the passport record as well as the programme membership

The State Department's Trusted Traveler guidance explains that membership can remain valid when the passport expires, but the traveller must renew the passport and update the TTP account before using the benefits. Its instructions are to sign in and choose the document-update function. A passport renewal and a Global Entry renewal therefore solve different problems: a five-year programme membership is not evidence that the passport information linked to it is still current.

CBP's TTP FAQ says existing members can update certain documents online, through the mobile application or by the listed support route. It distinguishes changes that need an enrolment-centre visit, including a name change or a document not already associated with membership. Check which transaction applies before assuming that entering a replacement passport number updates every identity detail. Keep the issued passport and the confirmed account information consistent, and ask CBP about an unresolved mismatch rather than create a second membership record.

Budget for the renewal and check each child’s separate application

The 2024 final rule raised the Global Entry application charge from USD100 to USD120 and expressly applies the new amount to renewals as well as first applications. It describes the processing fee as non-refundable and paid through the TTP system with submission. CBP's current customer-service information continues to list USD120 and five-year membership. A card issuer's reimbursement or a private application-service price is separate from the federal fee and should not be treated as CBP's charge.

The CBP Global Entry FAQ explains the fee treatment for children under eighteen: the application can be free where submitted concurrently with a parent or legal guardian, or where that parent or guardian is already a Trusted Traveler member. The child's application needs the adult's TTP application identifier or membership number. This is a fee condition, not automatic enrolment of the child. Prepare and check the child's own application and any required guardian information before relying on the adult's membership for a family trip.

Follow the assessment result and plan for companions using ordinary lanes

The TTP FAQ distinguishes an application awaiting assessment, conditional approval and completed membership. An interview on renewal may not be required, but where the account requests one, follow the available official scheduling instructions. The FAQ describes enrolment on arrival as an interview route during an international arrival at participating locations. Check that the actual location and applicant status qualify before planning to complete the process in transit; a general reference to that service does not guarantee an interview at every airport.

The State Department says only members can use the programme lanes at airports, and accompanying family or friends who are not enrolled must use ordinary lanes. Check the whole travel party's status and linked documents before choosing where to queue. Non-US citizens may also face country-specific participation requirements under the relevant arrangement. None of the reviewed resources guarantees renewal by a chosen flight date. If approval or document updates remain unresolved, plan to follow ordinary admission and inspection procedures rather than treating payment or conditional approval as completed membership.
