Uzbekistan visa-free visits still require registration and a 30-day departure plan

The US exemption is already in force

United States citizens visiting Uzbekistan for business or tourism can use the visa-free arrangement effective from 1 January 2026 for stays of up to 30 days. The Tourism Committee announced the measure on 3 November 2025 under Presidential Decree No. 203. This report is an October follow-up on using the existing arrangement, rather than a claim that a new exemption has just been announced.

The practical change for qualifying US visitors is removal of the advance visa requirement for those short visits. It does not remove accommodation registration, passport requirements or the limit on staying. The Tourism Committee announcement is the direct resource for checking the commencement date and nationality covered. Travellers holding another passport must establish their own position from the Foreign Ministry visa guidance rather than extend the American exemption to their nationality.

Check passport validity and the purpose of travel

The US State Department country guidance confirms the business and tourism waiver and tells Americans planning more than 30 days to obtain the appropriate visa before travelling. It requires a passport valid for three months beyond the allowed stay and one blank page for the entry stamp. Use that resource when assembling an American visitor travel-document checklist, especially if the passport is approaching expiry.

British citizen visitors also have a 30-day business or tourism exemption under UK entry guidance, which describes passport validity as three months after arrival. Read national advisories for their stated passport audiences. Where validity is marginal, confirm requirements with the Uzbek consulate and carrier. A short-visit exemption does not establish permission for employment, study or residence.

Register accommodation within three days

Visa-free entry does not mean an unregistered stay. The UK entry guidance instructs visitors to register within three days of arrival, counting Saturdays and Sundays. Hotels register their guests; for a private home, the host should arrange registration through the local office or electronic system. Ask the accommodation provider how registration will be completed before arrival rather than discover the requirement after changing cities.

The same guidance says another registration is needed when moving to another city for more than three days. It also describes self-registration for camping or camper-van travel, with tourist tax payable through the electronic system and an Uzbek debit card needed for online payment. These details matter particularly for independent travellers whose itinerary does not involve a hotel every night. Keep a complete record of accommodation because missing registration can create departure problems.

Choose visa entries and fees where the waiver does not apply

The Foreign Ministry visa page lists different visa routes and supporting documents. For an ordinary consular application it identifies a passport or travel document valid at least three months beyond the visa, two completed application forms and two passport-sized colour photographs. Invitation and purpose-specific requirements also apply to relevant categories. Applicants should use the category description and their issuing consulate together; the ordinary checklist alone does not establish eligibility.

For electronic visas, the ministry lists USD20 for single entry, USD35 for double entry and USD50 for multiple entry, with the latter two described for stays up to 30 days. These are visa fees for applicants who need that route, not charges automatically payable by exempt short-stay visitors. The separate ministry online-application FAQ links the official e-visa service; use that link to reach the application process and verify nationality eligibility before payment.

Build the departure date around the permission

Check the entry stamp and authorized period immediately after admission. The State Department warns that some regional road or rail itineraries briefly enter neighbouring countries, so travellers needing visas must consider both Uzbek entry counts and permissions for those neighbours. An illustrative visa-holder visiting another country and returning cannot assume a single-entry Uzbek visa will cover the return. Resolve that itinerary before buying the connecting journey, and arrange any longer-stay permission before the short-visit deadline rather than relying on an extension after it expires.
