Check the territory-specific requirement and any personal exemption

Fijian passport holders planning a visit to Wallis and Futuna normally need a visa before travelling. The territory’s government entry page specifically identifies that requirement and distinguishes short stays of up to ninety days from longer visits needing the appropriate long-stay category. This guide explains current preparation, not a new November restriction.

The local page also asks applicants for accommodation, support and departure evidence. It contains older references, including a 2019 announcement about submitting applications in Suva and an earlier reference to Port-Vila. Those references should not be used alone to choose today’s receiving office. Use the local page for the territorial context, then check the central France-Visas country instructions and any exemption based on the traveller’s existing French documents. A visa requirement cannot safely be decided from nationality alone where another exemption may apply.

Use the central Fiji instructions for the actual appointment

France-Visas currently directs residents of Fiji to an appointment with VFS Global and TT Services in Suva. It says the French embassy in Singapore processes the applications and alone makes the visa decision. Because that differs from the older Port-Vila reference, confirm the Wallis and Futuna application category with the listed service before arranging submission or travel to another country.

The official Fiji page asks for short-stay filing at least fifteen days before departure and one month for long stays. Applications cannot be lodged more than six months before travel. Its published processing period begins when the consular authority receives the case and may be extended; the planning intervals are not guaranteed visa-issue dates. Each applicant needs an appointment and complete file, with a parent or guardian accompanying a minor. Use the country page’s appointment link and contact details rather than a booking service belonging to another French consular jurisdiction.

Distinguish overseas permission from Schengen travel

The French Interior Ministry explains that Schengen rules apply to European France, while overseas territories have their own visa arrangements. A short-stay visa must cover the intended territory, and exemptions can depend on nationality, a qualifying French residence document or long-stay visa. Use its Overseas Visas guidance and the linked Wallis and Futuna rules to identify the applicable exception before assuming a European visa covers the journey.

The ministry also explains the reverse distinction: an overseas visa does not authorise travel into the Schengen area. Someone planning both destinations may need separate applications. Check every proposed destination and the documents held, particularly where a European connection involves entering Schengen rather than remaining in international transit. Permission for Wallis and Futuna is not a decision by the authorities of a connecting country.

Prepare the overseas form for the real itinerary and sponsor

The official overseas visa form expressly includes Wallis and Futuna. It records the destination territory, first-entry territory, dates, intended duration and requested number of entries. Those fields should reflect the actual itinerary; selecting multiple entries is a request, not evidence that they will be granted.

The form also distinguishes the applicant’s own resources from support supplied by a host, company or other sponsor. It asks for accommodation and contact details and records the relevant parental authority for minors. Use it with the personalised document list produced for the application, rather than assume that filling the form supplies the underlying evidence. Names must match the travel document. Keep copies of the submitted records and the eventual decision so the permitted dates and entries can be checked before departure.

Separate the visa charge from collection and transport services

The official French tariff lists EUR 9 as the full short-stay visa charge for Wallis and Futuna and EUR 99 for the general long-stay category. It identifies exemptions for specified family members and other cases. Use the tariff row matching the actual application, rather than the different Schengen charge or another overseas territory’s price.

The Fiji country page separately describes administration, provider and document-transport charges, with the government amount paid in Fiji dollars using the applicable official exchange rate. Confirm the itemised total and payment instructions with the service before paying. A provider receipt or appointment is not permission to board or remain beyond the period eventually granted. No individual approval deadline was established by these resources.
